Many are confused over the question “Who is the true god?” There is no shortage of ‘gods’ here. The number of ‘gods’ are so vast that most of us don’t know who is the true God and many go after so called ‘gods’ because they think it is the true god. Let us take some time to decide who the true God is.
The
way to know this is to find whether the spiritual guide to a God is true. There
are many conflicting and confusing voices in the world, each claiming to be a
guide to God. These ‘guide to God’ are the ‘holy books’ of different
religions. How can one know which is true? There are four ways to know which
‘guide’ is the true one .We have to find whether it has {1} Scientific
accuracy, {2} Historical accuracy, and {3} Prophetic accuracy. {4} Another way
is to find whether the guide is unique among the other guides. It is very
important to find out whether your spiritual guide is reliable or not. If it is
not then you will have to pay the price.
I
want to talk to you about the guide which I and many others all over world
believe is true –The Bible. Let us discuss it in detail.
I. HISTORICAL ACCURACY.
First of all I want to tell you that the Bible is the absolute truth. It makes no mistakes what so ever. All of it’s stories are proven right by history. Let’s see some of them.
(A). Jericho. Modern historians found this city with its walls pulled down. This discovery confirms the Biblical story about it in Joshua 6:20-“The walls fell down flat.”
(B). Ziggurat. It is found in Mesopotamia made of dried bricks. A king who did not start its work finished its work. The inscription found there said that the building offended the gods and they scattered them and made strange their speech. It confirms the story of the tower of Babel in the Bible in Genesis 11:1-9.
This
is just two of the many examples. All things recorded in the Bible are actual
history and not just stories. This makes it a book trustworthy than any other
book.
We
must know that Bible is not a textbook of science. But whenever it touches this
subject it has supremacy. A few examples are:
(A).
Earth. “He hangth the earth on nothing.” (Job 26:7). Job wrote this
about 3700 years ago. Yet this is twentieth century physics. At the turn of this
century scientists believed that a substance called ‘ether’ holds the earth
in space. But the most scientific statement now, agrees with the Bible, saying
that the earth ‘hangeth on nothing.’
(B).
The sphericity of earth. For a long time people believed that the earth
was flat. But Isaiah tells in 40: 22 “He sits enthroned above the
circle of the earth.” The word used in the original, Hebrew, is KHUG. This
word often refers to a spherical body.
(C). The earth’s intirier. We know that the interior of the
earth is made of molten metals. Job identified it 3700 years ago when he said
“and under is turned up as it were fire.” (Job 28:56).
How did Job know that the earth “hangeth on nothing.”? How did Isaiah
know about the sphericity of the earth? How did Job know that the interior of
earth is hot? This points to the only answer. The Bible is not of human origin.
Somebody who knows every thing must have written it. He is the true God. These
are only three examples for the scientific accuracy of the Bible. There are many
more. Men may have written it, but God guides them. To sum it up Bible is the
perfect word of God and is an authority on every subject it touches, spiritual
or scientific.
III.
PROPHETIC ACCURACY.
(A).
Tyre. Ezekiel predicted the destruction of Tyre in Ezekiel 26:3-14. Tyre
was a very prosperous country at that time. It was said that nations would come against her. Her towers and walls will be pulled
down. It will be made like the top of a rock. Its stones and wood will be cast
into the sea. Fishermen will spread their nets there. The chances for this
to happen was about 1in 7,50,00,000. Still it happened as predicted!
(B).
Sameria. Micah said in Micah1: 16 “There
for I will make Samaria as a heap of field and as planting of a vine field and I
will pour down stones there of into the valley and I will discover the
foundation there of”. The chance for this to happen was calculated to be
about 1 in 40,000. Yet this happened to the smallest detail.
The
odds against the above prophecies are so high that no human could have guessed
them accurately. This leaves us with the only alternative-they are divinely
inspired. No honest person can deny that. In the above discussion we have taken
only two prophecies but the Bible contains hundreds of such prophecies. About
Jesus alone there are about 300 prophecies. All of them taken together are
mind-boggling. The mathematics of probability demands a divine hand behind these
prophecies.
The proofs given above are the reasons why the Bible is unique. They prove that there is no other book like the Bible. They prove that there is no guide more trustworthy than the Bible. Yet there are more things that makes the bible a unique book.
The Bible was written by 40 authors but fits together so perfectly as if written by a single author. It was written in a period of about 1600 years. It has been translated in whole or in parts to over 1500 languages. It has remained the best seller of all times. There is no other book like the Bible.
All
the religions of the world teach that one has to do good deeds to go to heaven.
But the Bible makes a revolutionary statement. “For it is by grace you have
been saved, through faith-and this not from yourself, it is the gift of God-not
by works so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9). No other religion has
made such a statement or can make such a statement. The Bible teaches that NO
ONE can go to heaven with his own righteousness because “There is no one
righteous, not even one.” (I Romans3: 10). But God still loved us. “For God
so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in
him may not perish but have an eternal life.” (John 3:16). He send us his only
son Jesus
so that he will take the punishment of sins upon self and save us from hell.
Many don’t believe in hell. But Bible says that there is an eternal hell. If
you had done a single sin that is enough to go to hell. Imagine spending
eternity in liquid fire or ‘the lake of fire’. Don’t take the risk.
Believe in Jesus. All you have to do is admit that you are a sinner and believe
that He, the Son of God, came to earth as a man and died on the cross for the
punishment of your sins and rose on the third day. If you have done this call
him into your life with your own words. If you have accepted him I can guarantee
that you will go to heaven. The Bible guarantees that. The choice is yours. Your
whole life depends on this choice. You will either have to accept Him or reject
Him. There is no neutral. If you believe in Him then you are a child of God and
a citizen of heaven. Make your decision. Believe in
Jesus.
